What is reCAPTCHA and why is it important to include on your webforms?
ReCAPTCHA is a security measure used on websites to distinguish between human users and automated bots. Developed by Google, reCAPTCHA presents challenges or puzzles that are easy for humans to solve but difficult for bots. The most common form of reCAPTCHA involves users identifying and clicking on specific objects in images.
The effectiveness of reCAPTCHA as a spam tool lies in its ability to thwart automated scripts and spam bots. By requiring users to perform tasks that are easy for humans but challenging for machines, reCAPTCHA helps prevent automated systems from submitting forms, creating accounts, or engaging in other online activities that could be exploited for spam, fraud, or other malicious purposes.
Overall, reCAPTCHA is considered a good spam tool because it enhances the security of online platforms by adding an additional layer of verification that is difficult for automated programs to overcome.
ReCAPTCHA can be enabled by navigating to the forms module, editing a web form, then pressing the (+) field button.
- In the field type dropdown select spam.
- The unique ID selected should be reCAPTCHA_v2
- Then save!
Your results should be as shown below in this screenshot.
