(For an Example)
When emails are sent out, there are various types of message events that can occur during the delivery process. These events provide information about the status of the email and whether it was successfully delivered to the intended recipient. Here are some common types of message events:
- Delivered: This event indicates that the email was successfully delivered to the recipient's inbox or mail server. However, it doesn't necessarily mean that the recipient has opened or read the email.
- Bounce: A bounce occurs when the email cannot be delivered to the recipient's inbox and is returned to the sender's email server. Bounces can be categorized into two types:
- Soft Bounce: This occurs when the email is temporarily undeliverable, often due to issues such as a full inbox, server downtime, or temporary email server errors. Soft bounces may be retried for delivery.
- Hard Bounce: A hard bounce happens when the email is permanently undeliverable, usually due to invalid or non-existent email addresses, domain name issues, or recipient mail server rejections. Hard bounces typically result in the email being rejected and not retried for delivery.
- Soft Bounce: This occurs when the email is temporarily undeliverable, often due to issues such as a full inbox, server downtime, or temporary email server errors. Soft bounces may be retried for delivery.
- Deferred/Delay: A deferred message event occurs when the recipient's mail server temporarily delays the delivery of the email. This could happen due to issues like network congestion, server overload, or temporary connectivity problems. The email server will attempt to deliver the email again at a later time.
- Rejected: Rejected messages occur when the recipient's mail server refuses to accept the email for delivery. This could happen for various reasons, such as invalid recipient addresses, spam filters, blacklisting, or policy violations. Rejected emails are not delivered and are typically returned to the sender.
- Marked as Spam: If the recipient's email client or server identifies the email as spam or junk mail, it may be diverted to the recipient's spam folder instead of the inbox. This event indicates that the email was delivered but may not be seen by the recipient if they don't check their spam folder.
- Opened/Read: Some email tracking systems can detect when the recipient opens or reads the email. This event provides insights into recipient engagement and helps assess the effectiveness of email campaigns.
These message events play a crucial role in email deliverability and help senders monitor the success of their email campaigns, troubleshoot delivery issues, and improve communication with recipients.
