Updating Credit Card Information on File

Why you are unable to update existing credit card information on file for accounts.

Updating credit card information within Freedom requires that the card information be entered in its entirety.  It is not possible to edit existing Credit Card information to update the expiration date, CVV2, or other details.  The available options are Edit, Delete, View, or set the card as the default payment method.  The Edit option only allows editing the nickname associated with the card.

Freedom does not store the full credit card information.  This information is retained by your credit card processor.  Freedom this information directly to your card processor when the information is initially submitted.  Your card processor then stores that information and assigns it a unique token.  This token is what is stored in Freedom.

Freedom uses the token when processing credit card charges.  The token is passed to the processor from Freedom, along with the transaction details.  The processor uses that token to look up the card information in their system, then process the charge.  Freedom cannot update the information that your processor has associated with the token.

The token that is retained by Freedom cannot be used to update the card information that your processor has on file.  This means that any changes to the card information must be entered as a new credit card.  Freedom passes this new card info to your processor, receives a new token from them, then stores the token for future use.
