How to Hard Refresh Your Browser to Clear Cache

Browsers sometimes store parts of a web page locally in a special kind of memory called "cache" to improve loading speeds on future visits of that web page. Clearing your browser's cache then refreshing the page allows you to see the most up-to-date version of the page - doing this is called 'hard refreshing'.

Desktop Browsers

  • To hard refresh on Google Chrome, Firefox, or Edge browsers on Windows: hold down Ctrl and click the Reload button, or press Ctrl + Shift + R
  • To hard refresh on Google Chrome, Firefox, or Safari on Mac: hold down Shift and click the Reload button, or press ⌘ + Shift + R

Mobile Browsers

  • To clear the cache on Safari on iPhone, open the Settings app and scroll down to 'Safari', then tap ‘Clear History and Website Data’. *Note that clearing the cache on Safari will log you out of all the websites that you’re currently logged into.
  • Instructions for clearing cache on Android will depend on version and browser. Please try going to Settings app and select 'Apps', then select 'Storage', then select your browser, then tap 'Clear Storage'.

Instructions are specific to the browser and operating system, please see your browser's documentation for any setups not mentioned here.
