Limitations in Combatting Spam
While Freedom includes several spam prevention tools, completely eliminating spam is not always possible. Below are the key reasons why some spam may still get through, even with protections in place.
1. Sophisticated techniques
Spam perpetrators continuously evolve their methods to bypass security measures, using both automated bots and human spammers employing a variety of submission tactics.
2. Clever tactics
Spammers frequently use proxies, VPNs, or manipulated user-agent strings to appear as legitimate users, making it difficult for traditional security measures to distinguish genuine submissions from malicious ones.
3. Zero-day exploits
In some cases, spammers exploit security vulnerabilities before they are identified and patched, creating a temporary window through which spam can get through before countermeasures are in place.
4. Balancing security and usability
Maintaining a positive experience for genuine users requires balancing accessibility with security. Overly aggressive filtering can block legitimate submissions, so some risk tolerance is necessary.
5. User reporting
In addition to built-in security measures, reporting suspicious activity or spam to the Customer Care team helps identify and address issues more quickly.
